Fat Biking Adventures

Fat bikes have been billed as the “monster truck of the bicycle world.” Their name refers to the super-sized tires that allow the rider to float over unstable terrain such as snow and sand, and enable the bike to perform equally well on snow-packed streets in winter and rugged trails in summer.

“Fat bikes allow you the freedom to enjoy nature,” says Susan Clarke, co-owner of Bruce’s Cycle Works in Saskatoon. “Part of what is driving the popularity here is that a lot of people cross-country ski, but the snow conditions haven’t been so favorable in recent winters. The nice thing with a fat bike is that you can ride four seasons in all conditions.”
